I think another good idea would be to streamline the site.
First, do one layout for the whole site as opposed to one for each series or page. That should cut down on the extra bandwidth caused by downloading a bunch of new images for each new section. That I think would make a big difference although it might hurt to get rid of all the layouts.
Also you could cut down on extras like fanworks and goodies. That stuff might be interesting, but people are coming for the scanlations, not the extras.
Finally, you might want to use a tracking service to figure out what's downloaded/visited most often and where people are coming from. There might be a direct linking problem.

I'd be more than willing to host a series for as long as my hosting can take it. I get 20GB bandwidth a month (nijikon.net @ lunarpages.com).

Thanks for the help. ^^ Yup, it looks like we're going to have to start putting new ones up on the site and letting the old ones be accessed in some other way. Hmmm...farm-out? I've never heard of that. Think I'll go check that out too. ^^
It would definitely save on our costs too. XD
Oh, and thanks for the watermarking idea. I was also thinking of that after seeing Obsession's scanlations and Sana's Love Mode scanlations, but I didn't want to add something that would interfere with the pictures. A little something should be all right I suppose. I'm working on watermarking what we have right now. ~.^ Ergh...looks like there's going to be some major uploading again! XD
Edit: Tsukiyama - oooh, that would be wonderful! What series would you be interested in hosting? I think 20 GB should be enough for just one series (when s-c.net was in its middle popularity stages, we managed to survive on 30 for all of our manga...) and if it starts to kill you, just take it down.
Risu-chan: Errr...searching for a farm-out website. So far I'm getting things on how to grow your own veggie crops...

Wow, so many good ideas! Hmm...okay, Sakura and I will be brainstorming. ^^ So far, bittorrent and having other people host their favorite manga sounds like the best solution. I also did some sleuthing around (yes yes, like I said, I'm the sneaky one...) in our webhost's fine print, and I found that they don't count bandwidth used in FTP sessions towards the bandwidth you pay for. Sooo we could stick some files on FTP instead, since we would get an anonymous ftp server if we upgraded one level, along with extra space. ^^
Hmm...we'll probably do trial runs for some of the best ideas and see how much it relieves our bandwidth, and then choose the best idea. What do people think about the FTP idea? Do you still think that bittorrent would be better than that? ^^
Ergh...now I have to go learn how to configure the bittorrent thing. The instructions page I found is beyond my primitive scope of programming. I'll probably have to grab Sakura to help out on that. ^^
Hmmm...also, I got a lot of links from people about site that give "unlimited bandwidth and space". *cough* Now, I find that very verrry hard to trust, especially at prices like $100 a year.
I have to say though, our current host used to be unlimited as well, and they worked well enough.
Haha...but listen to this. "Unlimited space and bandwidth for $1 a month. What's the catch? There's no catch!"
*cough cough*

uhm, crisis, you got an e-mail from my boyfriend (IceFoxxx), erm, please read an consider it instead of thinking 'ya, sure' and delete it ^^;; (cause it's actually serious and not one of the catch? no catch! thingies) (x_X guess that's what everyone of them would also say? ~.~;; )
(sorry, just got worried after reading your last post ^^;; )

Haha yeah, I got the email! I only read it after I posted this though...sorry! That's *really* nice of him to offer hosting space, and I seriously think that we'll be going with having people help host our files instead of finding a website with "no catch".
I just didn't want to hog his bandwidth though, so s-c.net would only host at the most two mangas there. ^^ Thanks for asking him about it though, Shia, you sweetie! *moosh* I was very surprised to get an email like that!

I use both Bitorrent and irc but i prefer bittorent because
1) you don't have to queue FOREVER just to donwload one file like waiting for a whole entire day to download one file!!!!
2) you can go at high speed and no annoying firewall (i'm behind edu so it totally sux trying to get file behind port 59)
bUt then i like irc too..
But then, i don' really care as long as i get my manga!! haha

Another good thing about Bittorrent is that you can stop the download and come back to it another day. With IRC, if you have to shut down your computer you loose the download.

I made and offer of zip hosting space a while ago, and got an email, but things didnt go anywhere, so I'm just letting you know the offer still stands. I'm happy to host anything, though nijikon.net is especially fond of yaoi ^_^
